Sheep, Actually is the culmination of a decade of high-profile collaborations that followed after Paul Wyatt played a pivotal role as filmmaker for The Great Recovery – an initiative launched by the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) and Innovate UK that focused on resource scarcity and the circular economy. Since then, his film work has included a focus on materials, the environment, and material provenance.

It began in 2015 with Wyatt’s TV film The Survivor Sofa Story (2015) and Fabric of the Land (2018 and updated in 2025), featuring designers including Sebastian Conran, Sophie Thomas, and Ella Doran.

Further collaborations, including the London Cloth Company, Finisterre, Royal College of Art and Camira Fabrics, have collectively brought Wyatt’s films to massive audiences through television, public screenings, and international exhibitions, with The Survivor Sofa Story now a case study in the RIBA publication Sustainable Interior Design.

This decade of work was always leading Paul to the source of one material in particular – wool and the sheep themselves. This fascination for these remarkable animals was there all along and is rooted in the very first photograph Paul ever took as a nine-year-old – a snapshot of a sheep that became the foundation for Sheep, Actually.
