“Beautifully shot, truly a work of art and love.”
Tom Chivers, author of “London Clay”

Beyond the royal landmarks of Greenwich lies a fading industrial shoreline. As steel and glass towers rise to replace the grit of the past, Time and Tide offers a captivating and thought-provoking exploration of our relationship with landscape and identity.

Greenwich is known internationally for its royal connections—the birthplace of Henry VIII and home to the Royal Observatory. Yet, visitors rarely discover the area’s fascinating industrial heritage, including the site where the first transatlantic cables were manufactured—a technological leap that changed the world forever.

Helping to unlock and preserve these forgotten histories is Nicola White, a mudlark, artist, and influencer whose YouTube explorations have attracted over 20 million views. Through her discovery of riverbed artefacts—ranging from a 1970s bracelet to a 17th-century skeleton—Nicola reconnects us to the voices from the past embedded in this industrial landscape.

But as steel and glass buildings rise around her, Nicola faces the threat of losing access to this place forever.

Filmed over six years, Time and Tide explores personal identity through the eyes of those who share this connection to the river. The film features the voices of river folk, historians, artists, and storytellers, including Peter Kent, Remiiya Badru, Bobby Lloyd, Mary Mills, Megan Barford, Ian Tokelove, and Rich Sylvester.
